WHO WE ARE AND HOW TO CONTACT US
This site www.thestudentenergyproject.com is a site operated by [the Student Energy Project “TSEP”] on behalf of Amber Energy Solutions Limited (“AESL”). AESL are a company registered in England and Wales under company number 04466445 06968134 whose registered office is at 1 Central Square, Cardiff, Wales CF10 1FS (referred to as “We”).

ABOUT THIS PROJECT “TSEP”
TSEP was approached by Amber to collect energy consumption data from student buildings; and to help users to understand their personal CO2Footprint. Students are able to participate by registering and downloading the mobile app. Buildings are either registered for rewards or fair use. Your building owner will have already informed you if your site is measured for fair use.

The app algorithms collect data from the student hall of residence block energy meters, total consumption is divided by the number of people served by each meter and this is compared against expected usage which considers degree days/weather factors, and historical energy use for previous occupants.

If your building is operating under a rewards model then at the end of each year the total consumption for the building is compared against the original budget for the year and where there is a saving this will enable a donation to be made to our not for profit foundation (Power 2 Africa) or a number of trees to be planted.

If your building is operating under a fair use model your building operator will provide you with site-specifc information on how this will run; but you will be able to see your total usage vs the fair use cap for your building and understand how to reduce your carbon emissions. If you exceed the fair use cap your building operator may at their discretion charge you for any usage above a fair level.

This data is stored in a MongoDB database found at MongoDB: The Developer Data Platform | MongoDB , [where the data is kept securely for TSEP to access and process it. The data is collected and processed from individual students who have signed up but it is anonymised and aggregated into groups of occupants for each block of a hall of residence; when used for reporting purposes.
